We are  pleased to announce the start of refurbishment of the Brisbane Powerhouse Dog Off-Leash Area Upgrade in the Powerhouse Park, New Farm. The upgrade starting in August 2019 will improve amenity to one of Brisbane’s most popular dog off-leash areas.

The works will provide new park features for dog owners and the community to enjoy, including:

  • installing new seats
  • removing a small shelter
  • installing a shelter at a different location
  • altering current entrances
  • carrying out turf remediation, and
  • potentially a small dog space.

We very much need more light and air to penetrate to the surface of the dog park to allow grass to grow.

When the grass grows,  dust and odour is kept to a minimum – something all park users would like to see.

That’s why we will also install irrigation  – to keep the new sunny area’s grass growing for you.

Where the grass won’t grow, under the shade of the trees, we’ll install some porous rubber under surface treatment to make your seating environment more pleasant.

Throughout refurbishment, the local community can expect the temporary closure of the dog off-leash area and detours around the site. Construction noise will include some truck movements, trenching and bob cat activity. There will be low levels of vibration and dust. Signage will be in place to help pedestrians navigate the temporary closure.

A temporary dog off-leash area within New Farm Park will be created. This space will necessarily be smaller than the space currently available. Council has a number of alternative dog off-leash areas. Visit Council’s website and search dog off-leash areas.

Works are expected to commence from August 2019 and will be completed by November 2019.  Construction will take place between 7am and 5pm Monday to Friday. Council is committed to keeping the community informed of construction in their area and will provide advance notification of any out-of-hours works.

Every effort will be made to minimise disruption to the local community during the project, and Council would like to thank the community for their patience and understanding during these works.
