New Farm Park is blooming marvelous and set to continue to be so for years to come as we announce works to further enhance the New Farm Park rose gardens will start the week commencing 23 April 2018, weather permitting.
The New Farm Park rose gardens project forms part of the Lord Mayor’s $2.1 million commitment to the Renewing Great Brisbane Gardens project, which aims to revitalise and beautify two of Brisbane’s iconic gardens for residents and visitors.
This project is part of Council’s commitment to keep Brisbane clean, green and sustainable for our children, and their children to follow.
Stage 1 of the New Farm Park rose gardens project was completed in August 2017, and included infill planting of approximately 700 roses in the existing garden beds. Stage 2 aims to further enhance the gardens to ensure New Farm Park remains a great place to enjoy Brisbane’s outdoor lifestyle and leisure opportunities.
Stage 2 works will involve:
Extending existing rose garden beds
Constructing new rose garden beds
Planting approximately 2000 new plants
Installing a drip irrigation system into existing and new garden beds
Installing six new arbours
Associated landscaping works.
Council has identified two small Poinciana trees will need to be removed to accommodate the new rose garden beds. Tree removal will be offset in accordance with Council policies and relevant legislative requirements and every effort will be made to minimise environmental impacts during construction.
Construction for stage 2 is expected to be complete in August 2018, weather permitting. Works will generally take place between 7am to 5pm, Monday to Friday, however some night works may be required. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your patience during this time. Access to and through the park will be maintained at all times. For your safety, please look for signage marking possible access changes during construction.
