LGBTIQ Bursary

LGBTIQ Bursary

Building an Inclusive, Confident Brisbane

Brisbane is at its best when everyone has the opportunity to participate, contribute and succeed. As our city grows, it is more important than ever that we invest not only in infrastructure, but in people — particularly young people who are shaping Brisbane’s future with courage, creativity and community spirit.

Education remains one of the most powerful tools for building a strong, inclusive and resilient city. However, we know that for many students, particularly those from LGBTIQ+ communities, barriers such as financial pressure, discrimination or isolation can make study more challenging. Removing even a small obstacle can make a meaningful difference.

The Councillor Vicki Howard Bursary reflects Brisbane’s commitment to fairness, opportunity and belonging. By supporting LGBTIQ+ students to continue their education, this bursary helps ensure that our city benefits from diverse voices, lived experience and leadership.

This initiative is part of a broader effort, led by the National Council of Women of Queensland, to back students who demonstrate resilience, community contribution and a passion for making Brisbane a better place. When we support learning and inclusion, we invest in a stronger future for our entire city.
