Music festival to grow following venue capacity changes
The very first Winter Sessions music festival is on track to be bigger than first thought following the weekend announcement of increased capacities at indoor venues.
Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said tickets were now on sale for the six-day music festival, which would have more than 30 free and ticketed events across a range of local venues.
“The State Government’s recent announcement to increase capacities at indoor venues was music to our ears,” Cr Schrinner said.
“I’m thankful the State Government has listened to the ongoing calls of Brisbane’s live music industry to let live music live and end crippling restrictions at music venues.
“The past 12 months have been challenging for all Brisbane businesses, especially our live music venues, as they struggled to keep their door opens due to restrictive capacity limits, ” said Cr Vicki Howard
“The easing of restrictions at indoor venues is a step in the right direction and will allow more people to come and enjoy the first ever Winter Sessions festival in August.
“I’m pleased the State Government has finally started to listen. Music is just as important as sport.
“I stand by my statement that it is not fair to have sporting stadiums filled while music venues are hit with restrictions and left operating at a loss,” said the Lord Mayor.“The Winter Sessions event is the boost our local venues and musicians need any my team will continue to support this industry and always stand with the operators who just want to reignite Brisbane’s live music scene and make it thrive.”
Brisbane Winter Sessions is produced by Q Music and supported by Brisbane City Council. It will run from Thursday 5 August to Wednesday 11 August and include more than 30 free and ticketed events at local venues, including Fortitude Music Hall, The Triffid, The Brightside, The Zoo, Greaser and Brooklyn Standard.
