Brisbane’s home of music Fortitude Valley will have a brand-new festival on the line up this June, with the inaugural Brunswick Street Live.
Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said the new and free all-ages event, held on June 10th 2023, is sure to create plenty of buzz, while also supporting artists and local businesses.
“Our city is Australia’s lifestyle capital and we’re committed to delivering free and affordable activities, events, and festivals right across Brisbane,” Cr Schrinner said.
“Whether it’s cut-price activities for kids or free concerts for seniors in City Hall, we’re delivering events for residents that are fun and affordable.
“If you needed another reason to head into Brisbane’s iconic inner-city party precinct, the Brunswick Street Live Festival is it.
“The all-new Valley Malls event as part of our year-round program, which includes Valley Fiesta and the Moon Festival.
“The festival will activate the Valley’s day and night-time economies while featuring free performances from some of Brisbane’s best emerging and current musicians.”
The line-up includes twice ARIA-nominated Horrorshow, who have been at the forefront of homegrown hip hop since the early noughties, and emerging Brisbane indie pop group, MONSTERA.
MONSTERA guitarist and lead vocalist, Jasmine Ruane, said she was honoured to be part of the very first Brunswick Street Live event.
“Supporting and celebrating local artists in all facets of Brisbane’s cultural identity is so important to us,” Ms Ruane said
“The Valley is a very sentimental place for MONSTERA.
“It’s where we all started, so it’s a full-circle moment for the whole band.”
Other acts hitting the stage include five-piece moody pop-rockers, Ghost Mutt, and DJs Danyon, First Beige, Zed Mero, Nejmere and mumgenes – all hailing from Brisbane.
Festival-goers can choose to dance their way through the day enjoying the sets on Brunswick Street Stage or chill out and explore the artisan and vintage markets, enjoying all the Valley favourites for shopping, eats and drinks.
Artists Stewart Shuker, John Smith Gumbula and Seana Clarkson will also be creating a massive street-art style painting throughout the festival that will evoke a connection to place and community while being inspired by the icons of Brisbane.
