Building Constriction Management Team
The past few years have tested our resilience—from lockdowns and job losses to rapid changes in how we live, work, and connect. But now, as we move beyond the COVID-19 pandemic, a new chapter is being written in South East Queensland as we all strive for a better city for 2032 and beyond.
We know that construction isn’t always easy to live around though. It can mean temporary road closures, detours, noise, and changes to how you move through your city.
These short-term disruptions are real, and we’re working hard to manage them thoughtfully, minimise their impact, and keep residents of Central Ward informed every step of the way.
That’s why we established our BCC Building Constriction Management Team (BCMT).
The Building Constriction Management Team is the part of Council that investigates building matters where residents feel builders and/or their contractors are operating out of their scope. They have quite broad investigative and compliance powers.
A couple of years ago, the then Lord Mayor and I established these officers of the Suburban Construction Management Taskforce (SCMT) to make sure everyone was operating according to State Government and BCC building rules.
The SCMT was recently renamed, and the new dedicated officers in the Building and Construction Management Team work with our BCC Compliance Branch and BCC Development Assessment counterparts, and actively engage with builders, local businesses and most importantly residents, to proactively identify and mitigate risks associated with the building of new homes and structures.
Growing pains are part of something much bigger: building a stronger, more resilient city—one with more opportunities for you and the generations that follow.
Responsible development in our city means advocating for smart design, and making room for the next generation of homes, jobs, and culture.
