Brisbane youth to take climate action with global Bloomberg backing
Brisbane’s youth leaders will soon be able to turn their bold climate ideas into real world action with the help of a $70,000 ($50,000 USD) initiative from one of the world’s most prestigious organisations.
Brisbane has officially been selected as one of just 300 cities worldwide to receive funding from Bloomberg Philanthropies under the Youth Climate Action Fund.
The global initiative will allow Brisbane residents aged 15 to 24 to unlocks grants of up to $7,000 ($5,000 USD) for research projects targeting practical sustainability solutions.
What kind of projects could be funded?
- Climate education and awareness campaigns
- Environmental data mapping
- Heatwave response and climate resilience initiatives
- Community gardens and tree planting
- Sustainable food and urban farming programs
- Waste reduction, recycling and circular economy ideas
- Walking, cycling and public transport initiatives
- Youth-led climate leadership and decision-making programs
The program aims to empower young people to step up, build skills and deliver research-backed results that could make a difference across Brisbane.
Brisbane is Australia’s lifestyle capital, with the city’s parks and natural spaces part of the reason it was recently found to be the best place in the world to raise a family.
This is an investment in Brisbane’s future, taking steps to becoming a more sustainable, connected city that ensures residents can get home sooner and safer.
Cities that deliver strong outcomes may also be selected for a second round of funding, giving successful applicants the chance to scale their impact even further.
Bloomberg Philanthropies – which invests billions globally across climate, health, education and innovation – is backing cities to put young leaders at the centre of climate action.
Applications open 15 July 2026.
Brisbane residents aged 15 to 24 are encouraged to learn more and apply via Council’s website.
