Brisbane 2032 Olympics Journey
With the recent announcements made by the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games Organising Committee confirming venue locations, we now have greater certainty about what lies ahead. Central Ward is set to become a focal point of activity—transforming into a key hub for sport, recreation, and visitors from across the country and around the world.
This is an exciting opportunity for our community.
The Games will bring significant benefits, including increased investment, job creation, and long-term improvements to infrastructure and public spaces. It will showcase Brisbane as a global city—one where people come for the sport but stay for the lifestyle, culture, and sunshine.
However, with this growth comes responsibility.
It’s important that we shift the conversation from debate to delivery, ensuring we plan carefully and work together to manage the impacts on our local neighbourhoods.
I am particularly focused on minimising the impacts on Spring Hill and Bowen Hills, especially in relation to the development of the new Victoria Park stadium precinct, the National Aquatic Centre at the Centenary Pool site, and the transformation of the RNA Showgrounds into the Athletes Village—later becoming a diverse residential community.
As part of this planning, I am seeking your input on the long-standing Brisbane Central Traffic Area, where a 2-hour general parking limit has been in place since 1961. With Brisbane’s significant population growth, it is timely to consider whether current arrangements continue to meet the needs of residents, businesses, and visitors.
In the early years of construction, and during the Games themselves, some have suggested that moving to a 1-hour general parking limit could improve turnover and access. I am keen to hear directly from you about how these changes may impact your daily life. Your feedback is essential before any further formal Council consultation.
Your feedback will help shape how we manage traffic, parking, and accessibility throughout this once-in-a-generation period. With venues now confirmed, the next critical step is ensuring strong planning around transport and local amenity.

Feedback finishes on 30 June 2026.
Together, we can ensure our community is supported every step of the way, while making the most of this exciting chapter for Brisbane.
