Bedford Park Spring Hill

Bedford Park Spring Hill

Brisbane City Council is currently seeking community feedback on a proposal for the temporary, shared use of a portion of Bedford Park near to where you live. I am writing to seek your views.

This proposal has arisen following changes to school access to spaces in Victoria Park, and aims to support local students’ access to nearby areas for sport and physical education.

What’s being proposed:

  • Use of a designated section of the park for organised school sport during limited, scheduled weekday periods in school terms,
  • Limited access to the tennis courts for early morning training on select days, and
  • The playground and basketball half court remaining fully open and accessible to the community at all times

In addition, the school is proposing to:

  • Remove the existing concrete cricket pitch and soccer goal,
  • Install a low fence along the car park boundary to help prevent balls entering the car park,
  • Deliver field remediation to level out and improve the kick-about area, and
  • Take on responsibility for maintaining the field at its own cost.

The current proposal requests a temporary 12-month permit arrangement (not a lease). The school has committed to improvements and ongoing maintenance of the field and leaving the space in better condition for all the community.

Sadly, there is some incorrect information circulating on social media.  Balanced, respectful community input will help inform the outcome of this proposal, so have your say below.
