BNBN Commercial Road Upgrade
We all know how much we value our high frequency buses in the New Farm, Teneriffe and Newstead area – they are fast, frequent and reliable.
In Brisbane, buses do the heavy lifting, carrying two-thirds of public transport passengers.
The much-loved high-frequency Blue and Maroon CityGliders are proof of Council’s investment, and as our city continues to grow, we need to rethink our bus network and invest in smart solutions to keep Brisbane moving.
That’s why we are making the step change from public transport to mass transit, with the introduction of Brisbane Metro, a bus rapid transit (BRT) system that will complement our NEW BUS NETWORK and provide high-capacity, high-frequency travel options that are purpose-built for our city.
By making these changes, we’re moving more people, more often – as well as laying the foundation for future stages of turn-up-and-go services.
Brisbane’s NEW BUS NETWORK has been purpose-built for Brisbane to provide you with public transport our growing city deserves. You shared your feedback on the proposed network changes in 2022, and since then we’ve been refining the bus network to deliver you more services, more often.

What works are coming up?
A new bus stop is being installed near 136 Commercial Road
What does this work include?
As part of these works, we will:
- install bus stop signage
- install new bus stop signage
- install tactile ground surface treatments
- install new yellow bus zone line marking on the road
- update some on-street parking signage.
Why is this work happening?
This new stop will form part of Brisbane’s New Bus Network, which has been purpose-built for Brisbane to provide you with public transport our growing city deserves. Council is now getting the suburban network ready for implementation by ensuring we have the bus stops and layover areas required to service the local community.
Services at this stop
This bus stop will be serviced by route 309, operating between the RBWH station and the City via Teneriffe. There will be a transitional period before services start at the new bus stop. When this stop is active on the network, it will be visible on Translink’s Journey Planner.
What does this mean for me?
If you live in or are travelling through the area, you may notice:
- construction vehicle movements with reversing alarms and flashing lights
- construction noise
- traffic controllers and signage to safely direct traffic
- temporary lane closures and minor traffic delays.
On-street parking
We have listened to community feedback and will make some changes to planned parking arrangements. These changes retain existing and provide additional overnight on-street parking availability in the area near the bus stop.
This will help to balance bus operational requirements with the demand for residential and business on-street parking.
