It’s time to deck the Queen Street Mall and light up Brisbane as the countdown to Christmas kicks off for Christmas in Brisbane 2022.
Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner has launched a jam-packed calendar of festive events that will delight families, city workers and CBD shoppers as part of the 2022 Christmas in Brisbane program.
Cr Schrinner encouraged residents and visitors to soak up the festive celebrations, following several years of pandemic lockdowns and disruptions.
“Christmas is a time to reflect and celebrate with friends and family,” he said.
“There is no better place to shop and soak up the festive atmosphere than Brisbane and we hope everyone will take full advantage of the free and affordable events taking place every day across the city in the lead up to Christmas.
“We know the rising cost of living is biting, so we’re proud to deliver Christmas events that can be enjoyed by everyone, regardless of their budget.
“Our Christmas tree lights in King George Square will be turned on just in time for the Black Friday shopping bonanza on Friday 25 November, making it the perfect time to fill stockings and the perfect night out to support our local restaurants and bars.
Other family favourites include the Lord Mayor’s Christmas Carols, which will return on Saturday 10 December, The Lott by Golden Casket City Hall Lights which will be narrated by Olympian Cate Campbell OAM, and colourful performances at South Bank.
Cr Schrinner said the Christmas retail rush was a boon for local businesses, with a surge in shopping and dining set to boost the economy.
“Pedestrian foot traffic in the city has been very encouraging this year and we’re expecting it to climb even closer to pre-COVID levels,” Cr Schrinner said.
“This year we hope shoppers will choose to support local businesses when creating their Christmas wish lists.”
Residents are also encouraged to show their support for those in need this festive season with the launch of the Lord Mayor’s Charitable Trust Christmas Appeal.
“Christmas is a time for those fortunate enough to give back,” Cr Schrinner said.
“The Lord Mayor’s Charitable Trust Christmas Appeal supports charities that help people in need We urge people to give where possible this year to make sure every family can enjoy some Christmas cheer.”
