Federal investment for Brisbane

 

Federal investment for Brisbane with more than $40 million of Federally-funded infrastructure projects will soon get underway across Brisbane’s suburbs, including opening up the Archerfield Wetlands for public access, improvements to one of the City’s largest sports parks at Whites Hill and roadworks at Aspley, Fitzgibbon and Northgate.

 

Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said the boost was made possible thanks to an additional $40.7 million from the Morrison Government through the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure (LRCI) grants.

 

“Through this grant round we have been able to commit to a really diverse range of 41 projects across all corners of the city, from big ticket items like a new $3.7 million bikeway in Minnippi Parklands to smaller works to improve the quality of community halls,” Cr Schrinner said. 

 

“Grants like this provide a much-needed economic boost to our city, which is so important as we band together to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic. 

 

“These local projects put money into the pockets of local suppliers and residents, with the projects to support an additional 320 jobs throughout 2021.

 

“The Minnippi Parklands bikeway is a $3.7 million project and will connect Wynnum Road and Creek Road through the existing bushland reserve. Construction of the bikeway is expected to commence in mid-2021 and be completed by the end of 2021. 

 

“Thanks to the funding from the Morrison Government we will be able to bring forward works to turn the Archerfield Wetlands into a new recreation space as part of the Oxley Creek Transformation”

 

“$5.4 million of parkland improvements will mean the Windsor community will receive a brand new playground at Windsor Sports and Community Park, a new BMX and scooter track for Coorparoo Common, new play spaces and accessibility paths at Davies Park will be delivered sooner than originally planned and another package of sports field lighting for up to 60 clubs across Brisbane will also be delivered”

 

“Roadwork projects on Dorville Road at Aspley, Roghan Road, Fitizgibbon and bridge works at Nudgee Road, Northgate will also be undertaken to assist residents get home quicker and safer”

 

“Our city’s wildlife are also winners in this round, with $700,000 thousand for glider poles, underpass ledges and fauna movement infrastructure to be installed across multiple locations at key roads around the city”.

 

Cr Schrinner said the projects would support a year’s worth of employment and support to local businesses and industry around Brisbane.

 

“As we finally start to see the light off the back of the effects felt from the coronavirus pandemic, it’s more important than ever that the Schrinner Council Administration is committed to creating and supporting opportunities that stimulate the local economy. 

 

“Significant progress has been made with the LRCI Phase 1 which Council received $11.7 million of funding from the Australian Government, with many projects commenced and completion due by June 2021, supporting 64 jobs when we needed them most.”
