Brisbane urged to dig deep for Homeless Connect
The Schrinner Council is urging Brisbane residents to dig deep and donate essential items to support people in need ahead of the next Homeless Connect event in November.
In June, nearly 900 people doing it tough attended Homeless Connect, receiving meals, health checks, haircuts and vital connections to housing and employment.
Thanks to the incredible support of 381 volunteers the event delivered:
- 591 health checks
- 213 haircuts and personal care appointments
- 4574 connections to 60 services providing housing, employment, legal and community support
- 2102 meals, 600+ coffees and 41 pallets of donations shared
Building on the incredible generosity shown in June, Brisbane residents are being called on to donate essential items and support the next Homeless Connect.
Donations of toiletries, non-perishable food, clothing and other essentials will be accepted until 31 October for the event, which will take place at the Brisbane Showgrounds, Bowen Hills, on 7 November.
Everyone can drop off items at local Ward Offices or at any of the 33 Council libraries across the suburbs.
Homeless Connect is one of the many ways the Schrinner Council is supporting people doing it tough.
Earlier this year, the Schrinner Council provided $500,000 to Emmanuel City Mission to help establish Brisbane’s first 24/7-night sanctuary to support those most in need.

“Brisbane’s generosity is inspiring because every donation, no matter how big or small, makes a tangible difference to the lives of people doing it tough.
“A warm jumper, a tin of food or a packet of toiletries might seem insignificant, but together they create a huge difference for those who need it most.
“Since 2006, we have been hosting these events and helping tens of thousands of people, but now more than ever we need Brisbane’s community spirit to shine.”
“This event demonstrates what’s possible when service providers, the community and the Schrinner Council come together, because it’s about more than meals and clothes, it’s about giving people connection and hope.
“I urge residents to once again show their kindness, donate generously and support this cause, because together our compassion has the power to change lives.”
