Mobile CCTV to boost safety

Mobile CCTV to boost safety

Mobile CCTV Safety Boost – Safety is being boosted in Brisbane’s suburbs with the roll out of 26 new mobile safety cameras.

The new cameras are part of the Lord Mayor’s Safer Suburbs initiative which was a commitment made by our team at the recent local elections.

All 26 wards will receive a new mobile safety camera which will rotate to crime hotspots based on community and police feedback.

Central Ward’s first rotation will be to  New Farm Park.

The cameras are solar powered and can operate for six days without any sunlight.

These state-of-the-art cameras will feed into Council’s 24/7 security centre, with automatic notifications for unusual behaviour such as a group of people in a suburban park in the early hours of the morning.

These cameras are in addition to the existing network of more than 3800 fixed safety cameras.

CCTV cameras have proven successful in deterring and prosecuting people for a range of offences including anti-social behaviour, theft, illegal dumping and vandalism.

As part of the Lord Mayor’s Safer Suburbs Initiative 69 Safer Suburbs Grants for local sports and community clubs have been awarded. New fixed CCTV cameras have also been installed at:

  • Luxworth Place, Moorooka
  • Mount Gravatt Outlook Reserve Mount Gravatt Outlook Drive, Mount Gravatt.
  • Milton Common Park, Milton
  • Tinchi Tamba Reserve, Bald Hills
  • Musgrave Park, West End
  • Caxton Street, Petrie Terrace
  • Minnippi Parklands, Murarrie

“Brisbane has the best lifestyle in Australia, and we’re determined to keep it that way.

“We want to make our suburbs safer and ensure youth crime is taken seriously.

“Our suburbs are where people live, work and relax and we want to keep them safe and clean for everyone to enjoy.

“This investment in 26 new mobile CitySafe cameras will help keep our community safe and protect Brisbane’s incredible lifestyle.”

Queensland Police spokesperson, Inspector Michelle Piket said that  “The Queensland Police Service (QPS) welcomes the expansion of the mobile camera network to increase the benefit of these cameras to the broader Brisbane region.

“The Brisbane City Council camera network has been integral as part of our major event operations and daily monitoring of hot spots to ensure the community is safe and any offences are quickly detected and intercepted.

“CCTV has proven to be a crucial investigative tool for the QPS while acting as a deterrent to would-be offenders who might wrongly think they can get away with breaking the law.”
