Parking Cameras Bust Congestion

Parking Cameras Bust Congestion

Parking Cameras Bust Congestion as illegally and dangerously parked vehicles cause headaches and will be the focus of our new initiative to keep Brisbane moving.

Central Ward’s a winner with signage and enforcement cameras to be installed at locations that attract complaints from our residents about illegally parked vehicles that cause safety and congestion issues.

Residents complained about illegal parking almost 52,000 times in 2024 to our BCC Contact Centre.

Motorists illegally stopping in clearways, no stopping zones, bus zones, loading zones and on yellow lines will be the focus of this safety and congestion-busing initiative.

If someone stops in a clearway, they reduce the capacity of a two-lane road by 50 per cent.

Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner’s recent trial of cameras in four locations revealed significant non-compliance that caused congestion and safety problems as motorists were forced to manoeuvre around illegally stopped vehicles.

The cameras will now be rolled out to 16 further locations – many of them in Central Ward and surrounds.

Each location has signage in place advising motorists to follow the road rules and that cameras are monitoring parking compliance in the area.

Four initial trial locations:

  1. McLachlan Street, Fortitude Valley
  2. Wickham Street, Fortitude Valley
  3. Symes Street, Fortitude Valley
  4. Glen Road, Toowong

Signage and enforcement cameras will be installed from this month at:

  1. Amy Street, Albion
  2. Charlotte Street, Brisbane City
  3. O’Connell Terrace, Bowen Hills
  4. Oxford Street, Bulimba
  5. Millennium Boulevard, Carindale
  6. Robertson Street, Fortitude Valley
  7. Hercules Street, Hamilton
  8. Rotheram Street, Kangaroo Point
  9. Park Road, Milton
  10. Mayer Street, McDowall
  11. Metro Street, McDowall
  12. Festival Place, Newstead
  13. Moray Street, New Farm
  14. Buckland Road, Nundah
  15. Petrie Terrace, Petrie Terrace
  16. Russell Street, South Brisbane

Brisbane is one of Australia’s fastest growing capital cities, and keeping Brisbane moving relies on everyone doing the right thing when it comes to parking.

When a vehicle illegally parks in a clearway, no stopping zone or bus zone, it causes delays for thousands of people trying to reach their destinations.

We want motorists to think twice before parking illegally, because even a short stop in the wrong place can have a big impact on traffic flow and safety.
