Resilient Clubs Support Program.
The Schrinner Council is helping Brisbane’s sporting and community clubs save money and be more environmentally friendly with a further $400,000 commitment to the successful Resilient Clubs Support Program.
Lord Mayor Adrian Schinner said the latest round of funding would allow Council to work with up to 20 additional clubs to help them reduce their electricity bill, which is one of the biggest costs for many clubs.
“We want to put more money back into the pockets of Brisbane’s clubs so they can redirect this money into areas that benefit their community and their members,” Cr Schrinner said.
“During this financial year we will be installing up to 500kW across about twenty clubs, which is the equivalent of taking approximately 215 cars off the road.
“To date, the program has enabled 32 community clubs to install solar, saving a total of 800 megawatt hours of energy and an estimated $200,000 in energy costs annually.
“The incredible success of this program to date is a win for our sporting and community clubs and for our clean and green city.”
Cr Schrinner said the Resilient Clubs Support Program is being rolled out across two years, with a target to service all clubs that have in-use playing fields during that time.
“Local clubs play a key role in bringing people together and provide a valuable service to our community,” Cr Schrinner said.
“I’m committed to working alongside our community clubs to come up with real, practical options to reduce their water and energy use, and help cut their operating costs over the long term.
“Playing fields cost a lot to maintain so as part of our program clubs receive a water and energy efficiency audit, which looks at things like taps, light fittings and irrigation systems.
“Last financial year was a tough one for our clubs battling through the impacts of the pandemic, but we managed to conduct audits and help more than 90 clubs.
“The Schrinner Council also provided $3 million in direct financial assistance to community, cultural, and sport and recreational groups via the Lord Mayor’s COVID-19 Direct Assistance Program.”
