Safety Camera Location Survey

Safety Camera Location Survey

Thank you to everyone who recently took part in my community safety feedback survey in 2025.

Your responses have now been reviewed — and I’m delighted to share that your input has helped deliver a major outcome for our area with new CCTV rollout strengthening the  frontline fight against crime – particularly in Spring Hill and Bowen Hills.

The Schrinner Council will roll out 17 new CCTV safety cameras across six suburbs to help stand up for Brisbane on crime and keep the city’s suburbs safe.

Backed by a $1 million contribution from the Crisafulli Government, the new safety cameras will be installed in Fortitude Valley, Spring Hill, Bowen Hills, Mitchelton, Keperra and Alderley.

The rollout of additional CCTV follows recent crimes, including a firebombing that devastated two Alderley businesses at South Pine Rd and Railway Pl, where a new camera will be placed.

The staged installation of new cameras in Mitchelton began on November 13 and is backed by strong community support following a recent spate of crime and businesses being targeted by vandals in the area.

Each unit is a next-generation 5-in-1 camera, featuring speakers that can issue real-time warnings against illegal behaviour.

All cameras will feed into Council’s 24/7 Security Operations Centre, which already monitors more than 4450 cameras across the city.

The Schrinner Council’s CCTV safety cameras have helped identify more than 950 incidents in 2025 to date, in addition to 5320 incidents over the past three years.

This upgrade builds on the Schrinner Council’s successful safety initiatives including the Mobile Suburban Security Cameras, Suburban Safety Lighting Program and the Lord Mayor’s Safer Suburbs Grants.

“Brisbane has the best lifestyle in Australia and we’re determined to keep it that way, said Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner:

“While crime is a primarily a state issue, we’re doing what we can to help make our suburbs safer.

“By expanding our CCTV network, we’re delivering strong, practical action to deter crime, support police and keep people safe where they live, work and relax.

“We will always stand up for Brisbane on crime to keep every suburb safe, day and night.”

“The Crisafulli Government is making Queensland safer with stronger laws, more police with better tools and by backing council initiatives to help restore safety where you live,” said  Hon Ann Leahy MP, Minister for Local Government and Water:

“This investment to expand the state-of-the-art CCTV network across Brisbane will help prevent crime, support police to respond faster and better protect Brisbane families.

“Every Queenslander should be safe in their community, and this is one way the Crisafulli Government delivering a fresh start and making Queensland safer.”

“Every camera acts as a deterrent to would-be offenders and, where a crime has occurred, assists in capturing evidence which can be used to identify potential offenders and solve offences,” said Queensland Police Service North Brisbane District Acting Superintendent, Jon Kent:

“The Brisbane City Council CCTV network is an invaluable tool supporting community safety and investigations.”
