A landmark agreement between the Australian Government, State Government and mayors of South East Queensland will deliver a $120 million injection into the ongoing transformation of Victoria Park.

More than 20 South East Queensland projects will benefit from $285.8 million in funding through the South East Queensland (SEQ) Liveability Fund.

The SEQ Liveability Fund is one of 29 commitments under the $1.8 billion SEQ City Deal; a partnership between the Australian and Queensland governments and Council of Mayors (SEQ) to create a lasting legacy for the fast-growing region.

Under the agreement, the Australian Government, Queensland Government and Schrinner Council will each contribute $40 million to deliver Victoria Park catalyst works, including:

  • An all-ages, all-abilities “Adventurescape” playground incorporating natural elements like sticks, vegetation and rocks for nature play
  • A two-kilometre “Parkway Loop” boulevard linking the existing land bridge over the Inner City Bypass and the Brisbane Metro and busway station
  • A new active transport bridge at the entrance of the park
  • Road and intersection upgrades to improve safety and accessibility in the park
  • New administration and operations buildings
  • Wayfinding signs and public art
  • Additional car parking facilities

These works are expected to create more than 800 ongoing jobs, in addition to more than 500 during construction.

More than 51,000 ideas were put forward when Brisbane residents were consulted on the Victoria Park Vision, including the Adventurescape Playground, Parkway Loop, Spring Hill Common and Urban Pump Track.

Work on the Spring Hill Common is now complete and the Urban Pump Track due to open later this year, with these projects being delivered outside the SEQ Liveability Fund.

Our city is growing rapidly and we’re working with all levels of government to help keep Brisbane moving.

With more people choosing to call Brisbane home, we’re keen to create more to see and do for people of all ages and abilities.

I always promised Victoria Park would be a place for all residents and visitors to enjoy and I want to thank the Federal and State governments for supporting that vision.

Our record of delivering new destinations like Howard Smith Wharves, West Village, Fish Lane and Bradbury and Hanlon parks have helped shape Brisbane’s incredible lifestyle.

Brisbane is one of the best places in the world to live and by investing in destinations like Victoria Park we can help make it even better.
