Slow Down in Our Street

Backing Safer Suburbs for Brisbane Families

Keeping Brisbane’s suburbs safe is a top priority for me and Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner, as we  continue to deliver practical, community-focused initiatives that make a real difference where people live.

My “Slow Down in Our Street” campaign is a clear example of this commitment; providing residents with a simple but effective way to help protect their families, neighbours and broader community.

Speeding through suburban streets puts pedestrians, children and local residents at risk.

As Councillor for Central Ward, I am a dedicated local champion for safer streets, working closely with residents, and the QLD POLICE to implement practical measures that improve everyday safety.

Strong communities need strong policing, I will never support defunding our police, ensuring they remain fully equipped to carry out the frontline patrols that keep Brisbane safe.

Through initiatives like this though the community has a direct and visible way to influence driver behaviour and contribute to safer neighbourhoods.

The campaign itself is simple but effective. Residents can request a free “Slow Down in Our Street” wheelie bin sticker to display when their bins are out for collection. These highly visible reminders encourage motorists to slow down and drive responsibly where it matters most—right outside people’s homes

Safer streets don’t happen by chance, they happen through strong leadership, community action, and a shared commitment to looking out for one another.
