Growing Our Urban Canopy

Growing Our Urban Canopy

Growing Our Urban Canopy is important to me, and as part of the recently completed Howard Smith Wharves cliff remediation project, we are planting 3 trees in Wilson Outlook Reserve in early April to offset cliff face vegetation removal.

Three new Illawarra Flame Trees (Brachychiton acerifolius), including one advanced 400L tree, will be installed at locations that have been carefully considered by our senior arborists  to maintain vistas and viewing opportunities while adding long-term shade, beauty and habitat value for the community to enjoy for generations to come.

These iconic native trees will complement the park’s character while supporting urban biodiversity and cooling to help keep our suburbs cooler, shadier and greener.

Brisbane is Australia’s lifestyle capital and our network of more than 2100 parks provide free family fun all year round.

I know residents love to get out and discover new places to play, that’s why we delivered Howard Smith Wharves, the associated Cliff Remediation, and now these plantings.

Our Council will continue to create places in Brisbane that bring more to see and do to our suburbs.

Tree planting work will occur in early April 2025, between 7am and 5pm, weather and site conditions permitting.

You may notice workers, machinery and temporary traffic control while planting is underway.
