Holiday Fun delivered by Vicki Howard

School Holiday Fun – From stargazing to storytelling, the Schrinner Council’s winter school holiday program is back, creating more to see and do in the suburbs.

Brisbane is Australia’s lifestyle capital and we want to make it easier to keep kids active and engaged while enjoying everything our great city has to offer.

It can be easy for kids to want to stay inside on screens during winter, but our program encourages families to get out, get active and explore the suburbs.

It’s all part of our commitment to making Brisbane an even better place to live

The winter program is packed with more than 370 activities to keep kids of all ages entertained.

Best of all, more than 85 per cent of the program is completely free.

Highlights include more than 100 Active and Healthy classes to keep warm in winter, with experts helping kids master everything from basketball, to fishing and teen yoga.

Brisbane’s 33 libraries will offer more than 160 free events, including author chats and writing sessions, while the Museum of Brisbane is serving up an exciting mix of hands-on workshops and creative experiences for kids of all ages.

The Sir Thomas Brisbane Planetarium will run six daily shows with free entry to the Observatory.

The Boondall Downfall Creek and Karawatha Forest environment centres will host free native wildlife shows presented by local experts.

For older kids looking to try something new, Visible Ink will take over Queen Street Mall on Tuesday 1 July with activities for teens, followed by an open mic night on Wednesday 9 July for young performers to showcase their talents.

While the majority of activities are free, many require bookings to secure a spot. To view the full program and register, visit brisbane.qld.gov.au and search ‘School Holiday Events’.
