Better Suburbs Grants Announced

More than $400,000 will be given to Brisbane not-for-profit community organisations as part of the first round of the 2022-23 Lord Mayor’s Better Suburbs Grants’ Community Support Category.

A total of 49 not-for-profit community organisations were awarded funding in the Community Support category.

Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said the funding will go towards for the delivery new projects and activities, allowing community groups to undertake facility improvements, purchase operational equipment and create projects and activities for their community.

“These organisations are at the forefront of helping some of our residents when they need it the most and it is vital, that we support their ability to continue this work,” Cr Schrinner said.

“This round of funding gives community support organisations like Foodbank Queensland the opportunity to meet additional demand by purchasing a demountable office for its staff, and allow Fareshare Australia to invest in a freeze-dry machine to develop long-life meals for those experiencing hardship.”

Other organisations recognised include community sporting groups, garden centres, church groups, men’s sheds and museums, showing the variety of groups eligible for these grants.

“These not-for-profits and community groups work hard to help make Brisbane an inclusive, resilient, connected and healthy city and these grants help them build stronger communities for our city.”

Applications for the next round of the Lord Mayor’s Better Suburb Grants Community Support category opens on 20 March 2023.
